Lindy Heath answered on 20 Jun 2012:

When we breathe in oxygen, the body uses the oxygen to react with glucose to obtain energy. When the oxygen and glucose react the products are ATP (energy), carbon dioxide and water. The carbon dioxide is a waste product which our bodies don’t need so we breathe it out.
