      Absolutely.
Before my science research work started I was pretty useless about computers (how to set up 2 screens etc), organising myself, making things (including wiring a plug!) and general problem solving. Doing the science research has enabled me with the confidence and belief that I can solve problems on my own (and I don’t need to be told how to spend my time!) Whether I stay being a scientist or not, I’m now a more useful and confident person.

The science doesn’t make me a better person, as such, but doing what I enjoy makes me much less grumpy, which helps enormously!
