I’d say that my job is challenging as most of the experiments that I do haven’t been done before. It is sometimes difficult to work out what your results mean but when you do it is the best feeling. Working in a lab means that you always get support from other scientists too. This can help if you have a particularly tricky result to explain.
Parts of it are – trying to find the time to do everything that comes near my desk is next to impossible? I currently have 105 emails in my inbox that have yet to be dealt with (which is actually quite low). Juggling other people’s demands on my time is the most difficult part. Doing the actual science is actually comparatively easy. Even if the science is really challenging (which happens…often) it is not “hard” as working through the problems are really enjoyable, so you don’t notice it.
